Homework should only be provided for skills the child can perform. If the child cannot say /k/ in at least one word, production practice homework should not be provided. However, homework to build awareness and stimulability should be provided even when production practice homework is not advisable.

Metaphonological skills homework should always be provided. Please see this page for more information. I tend to give families a page of words the child can already say for onset-rime blending/segmentation practice. For example, I often use the initial /b/ words for metaphonological skills homework, while the production homework might be /s/ blends. I try to make it clear to families that they are NOT to correct the child's speech while practicing metaphonological skills.
